AI: Getting started

Want to learn more about AI (Artificial Intelligence)? Come along to this introductory session where we will introduce new ways to help you work smarter (not harder). This session is aimed at anyone with no AI experience. You will use a range of on-line / real-time applications to generate text specific for your needs, plus generate images and videos to enhance your text. Basic computer skills would be helpful, but are not essential. BYOD is encouraged or school computers will be available.

ART: Learn to Draw Workshop

1 Saturday - 22 June 9.30am - 3.30pm

Would you like to learn to draw? Do you believe it's impossible for you? Well then, this course is exactly for you! I can teach you to draw by showing you how to activate the right hemisphere of your brain, which is ideally equipped for drawing. Drawing is innate like walking and talking, you already have everything you need, I will just open the door. The workshop is also perfect for you if you want to develop your skills. Give it a go, everyone learns and you can too!

Fees: NZ$90 - Bring your own 2B pencil, rubber and a pad of cartridge paper or a visual diary.

ART: WATERCOLOUR for Absolute Beginners

Do you think it's hard to paint with watercolour? It sure can be if you don't know how. I can teach you how! In one day we cover some fundamental techniques that enable you to paint subtle lights, solid mid tones and luscious darks without any brush marks, patchiness or those pesky cauliflowers. You can do it when you understand the beautiful nature of watercolour which is to flow...you will also experience a bit of right hemispheric creative play!

KNIT GARMENT SEWING (Simple)

2 Saturdays - 11th and 18th May 9am - 3:30pm

Knit Garment Sewing Want to make knit garments but feeling unsure of all the unknowns involved? This course will provide you with the opportunity to launch into sewing knits with confidence. Delivered over 2 consecutive Saturdays this course will enable you to develop understanding of the process of making a knit garment of your choice. During class, you will be guided through cutting out, prepping pieces to sew, seaming your garment with the overlocker and finishing hems, necklines and other edges. There will be many useful sewing tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the class also. Recommended to choose one of the following styles to make: Sweatshirt, Simple T-Shirt, Leggings, Sweatpants No styles that require a zip, buttons & buttonholes or other closures. If unsure about suitable style (or if you have any queries regarding course or course materials please contact the tutor via Tawa College Community Education coordinator. Some overlockers are available to use during the course or bring your own. Please let us know if you need to use a school machine so that it can be booked in advance .

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

1 Saturday afternoon - On 15 June from 12noon -3pm

Krav Maga (contact combat) is a self-defence system developed by the Israeli Defence Force. Its application and efficiency in the real world has been proven to be highly effective by law enforcement agencies, protection services, and the military. The 3 hour session will be at an introductory level and will focus on civilian self defence. Unlike the military or police, the main intent for civilian krav maga is to: Minimise harm to oneself, stop the escalation of conflict by defending in a decisive manner, and also by escaping quickly at the very first opportunity

SEWING FOR BEGINNERS - SATURDAYS

2 Saturdays - On Saturday 8th & 15th June from 9am - 4pm

This class is for people who are wanting to gain confidence with a sewing machine. And those just starting can work through a project making a shopping bag to introduce them to the sewing machine and sewing techniques.A condition of enrolment on this course is that you will attend at least 80% of the sessions. The first time you enrol, you'll need to provide your National Student Number (NSN) or, if you don't have one, email a copy of your passport or birth certificate as proof of your NZ citizenship or residency to [email protected]

THE TREE OF LIFE

1 Saturday morning - 11 May 9:30am - 12pm

The ‘Tree of Life’ is a beautiful process drawn from narrative therapy which has been used with people all over the world. The facilitators will support you to map out your life story in a way which is honouring and strengthening. We will then share our stories in a way that is safe and uplifting, helping us to improve our resilience and wellbeing. Suitable for people of all ages and abilities. No artistic skills are required and all materials will be provided.

Upholstery

Tutor/Facilitator: Raewyn Dawe
5 Saturday mornings, 4 hours for the first session then 3 hours - Starts 18 May from 9.30am

Please note there has been a slight change to dates / times advertised in our brochure. Learn how to revitalise your furniture using equipment you already have at home. Sewing skills are essential. Please note the size of your project will determine how much homework you need to do it get it completed, but come and learn what you need to do to refresh your furniture.
