ART: WATERCOLOUR for Absolute Beginners

KNIT GARMENT SEWING (Simple)

Knit Garment Sewing Want to make knit garments but feeling unsure of all the unknowns involved? This course will provide you with the opportunity to launch into sewing knits with confidence. Delivered over 2 consecutive Saturdays this course will enable you to develop understanding of the process of making a knit garment of your choice. During class, you will be guided through cutting out, prepping pieces to sew, seaming your garment with the overlocker and finishing hems, necklines and other edges. There will be many useful sewing tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the class also. Recommended to choose one of the following styles to make: Sweatshirt, Simple T-Shirt, Leggings, Sweatpants No styles that require a zip, buttons & buttonholes or other closures. If unsure about suitable style (or if you have any queries regarding course or course materials please contact the tutor via Tawa College Community Education coordinator. Some overlockers are available to use during the course or bring your own. Please let us know if you need to use a school machine so that it can be booked in advance .

METAL JEWELLERY: Set in Stone

1 Sunday - On 23 June from 10am - 4pm

You’ve made a ring and a bangle so how do you extend your skills? Stone setting is one of the most fun things you can do in a jewellery workshop – it’s a little bit magic, a little bit precision and one of the best ways to grow your skills. This is a one-day class where your creativity and all the techniques you learnt previously come together. We will be making a stone setting, and developing this into a finished piece, a ring or a pendant, and wearing it home. Silver, stones and cords are included in the course costs as is copper to practice with, saw blades, solder etc. All tools are provided. You must have completed the Beginners workshop to undertake this class. Returning students welcome. We will be working with hot metal and tools so workshop clothing and covering footwear please; no open shoes, slides, sandals or jandals allowed. This is for your safety in the workshop.

POTTERY: Wheel Work Intermediate (July) **FULL**

**THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL** This course is only for those students who have completed at least one Beginners Wheelwork class or have an equivalent amount of wheel throwing experience. The aim of the course is to extend students who can already centre and throw a basic cylinder, and will provide tuition to begin making pieces that are larger and with more complex shapes, such as vases, jugs, pots with lids and types of serving dishes. Please note that glazing will be done on the final week, so it is essential that students can attend on that evening as there are no alternative opportunities to glaze work. The costs for clay, firing and glazing materials are extra and will vary depending on how much a student makes. Please bring $50 materials deposit payable in cash to the tutor on the first night. Some students may not use all this deposit however productive students may be required to pay more. QI GONG FLOW

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. This class will be an exciting fusion of gentle, flowing, focused movements and breath, combined with energy medicine techniques, as well as myofascial tissue stretches. In this class movement is medicine. Qi Gong practice promotes health of the body and mind through focus and intention. The movements will also stretch the body and build greater awareness of how the body moves through space, without any challenge to the cardiovascular system. Qi Gong exercise is a powerful addition towards achieving wellbeing. The class will allow you to restore balance to the body energetically as well as to cultivate vitality. The class is open to everyone. Will be done in standing with some floor / mat work.

SAVING FAMILY MEMORIES:

EVERYONE has a story worth sharing. This class will inspire you to start saving family stories and memories for future generations. Most family history is recorded in documents and photographs, but there are many stories and memories that are not recorded and will be lost or forgotten if they are not saved. You will use old photographs as prompts, and create a timeline of key life events that you wish to document. The main focus is on using video & audio to record stories and memories, but the same principles can be applied to writing a personal memoir.

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

Krav Maga (contact combat) is a self-defence system developed by the Israeli Defence Force. Its application and efficiency in the real world has been proven to be highly effective by law enforcement agencies, protection services, and the military. Unlike the military or police, the main intent for civilian krav maga is to: Minimise harm to oneself, stop the escalation of conflict by defending in a decisive manner, and also by escaping quickly at the very first opportunity
