Joya de Geus

Born originally in New Zealand south Canterbury of Dutch origins and raised in the shearing sheds, I moved to the Netherlands as a child and have kept that connection for most of my life doing Post-Grad Art and B. Eng. there and spending time at Art school in France, with a stint in Italy. Lucky enough to have been taught Watercolour at a little country school in Canterbury started my career in painting and helped to refine my technical skills. Specializing in Printmaking at Art School in Amsterdam and France has contributed to my graphic style. Later I picked up a unique Batik method at Vincent’s Art Centre in Wellington - but I am always influenced by my environment and nature. I have painted since childhood but after years of being a secondary Art teacher and now nearing retirement I hope to concentrate on my art again and start enjoying it!
