BIBLE DISCOVERY COURSE

The Bible is the best selling book of all time. This is a non denominational introduction to the Bible for anyone interested in this unique book. It explores the origin and history of the Bible, its authorship, reliability in textual transmission and translation accuracy. We examine Biblical inspiration, what the overall message of the the Bible is, whether Jesus Christ was a real person and explore some keys to make reading the Bible easier.

Defensive Driving March

4 sessions - 10th, 12th, 17th and 19th March - Starts on 10th March from 4 - 6pm

Improve your driving skills, steer clear of danger and/or reduce your time on a restricted licence. This covers the theory and practical parts of the course. It is essential that participants attend all 4 theory sessions and the practical driving assessment, which will be arranged with the instructor during the theory sessions.

Musical Keyboard Skills:

Learn to use the musical keyboard. One hour individual and group tuition plus practice time using the schools' electronic keyboards. Usually split into 2 groups with start times of either 6.30 or 7.30pm. Please bring your own headphones.

New Zealand Sign Language: Level 1B (Monday)

This course is for those who have already completed units 1-3 ie 16 hours of NZ Sign Language . It covers units 4-6 A condition of enrolment on this course is that you will attend at least 80% of the sessions. The first time you enrol, you'll need to provide your National Student Number (NSN) or, if you don't have one, email a copy of your passport or birth certificate as proof of your NZ citizenship or residency to [email protected]

Orchestra

32 Monday nights - Starts 11 February from 7:30-9:30pm

The Tawa Orchestra is a community orchestra that attracts players of all ages and walks of life. No audition required – minimum standard Grade V. You will learn the dynamics of being part of a full orchestra including rehearsal techniques, sectionals, and performance. The Tawa Orchestra will perform at least 2 concerts throughout the year and may include collaborations with other community groups and visiting artists. New members can join at any time. Inquire about the fee if you are starting during the year. There will be 2 concerts during 2025 - dates to be confirmed.

POTTERY: Wheel work for beginners (February)

8 Monday nights - Must attend 31 March - 3 February - 31 March 2025 from 7- 9:30pm

**THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL** This class is an introduction to throwing clay on a pottery wheel. Students learn to centre clay on the wheel and the basics of throwing the foundation shapes of cylinders and bowls. Please note that glazing will be done on the final week,31 March, so it is essential that students can attend on that evening as there are no alternative opportunities to glaze work. The costs for clay, firing and glazing materials are extra and will vary depending on how much a student makes. Please bring $60 materials deposit payable in cash to the tutor on the first night. Some students may not use all of this deposit however productive students may be required to pay more. This class is held at Gear Homestead Woolshed Potters clubrooms, Gear Homestead, Okowai Road Porirua and is for ADULTS ONLY.

POTTERY: Wheel Work Intermediate (July)

8 Monday nights - must attend 1 September - 14 July - 1 September 2024 from 7-9:30pm

**THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL** Must have done a previous intermediate course or 2 beginner classes or have equivalent throwing experience. The aim of the course is to extend students who can already centre and throw a basic cylinder, and will provide tuition to begin making pieces that are larger and with more complex shapes, such as vases, jugs, pots with lids and types of serving dishes. Please note that glazing will be done on the final week, so it is essential that students can attend on that evening as there are no alternative opportunities to glaze work. The costs for clay, firing and glazing materials are extra and will vary depending on how much a student makes. Please bring $60 materials deposit payable in cash to the tutor on the first night. Some students may not use all this deposit however productive students may be required to pay more.
