Overlocker Basics/Sewing with Knits
An introduction to the overlocker, develop skills to use this equipment safely and efficiently. Learn how to use the overlocker for seaming knit garments. Prior Sewing experience essential. Some overlockers are available to use during the course or bring your own. Please let us know if you need to borrow one so that it can be booked in advance.
Please bring the following items to Overlocking class:
Pen & Paper
Half a metre of (scrap) knit fabric
20 – 30 cms of cotton woven fabric (or large’ish) scrap fabric
Please prepare your fabric as attached
Fabric Scissors (optional)
Tape Measure
Pins
Tweezers for threading overlocker
Dressmakers Snips (optional)
Tailors Chalk
Threads – for both overlocker and sewing machine
Your overlocker (if you have one), its power cord and instruction manual
Lunch & Water bottle
By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to:
Improve your understanding of how to thread up your overlocker
Identify what needles and threads to use
Demonstrate how to use the overlocker for a range of purposes
Develop a range of overlocking handling techniques
Have a greater understanding of working with knit fabrics and knit sewing techniques
