Overlocker Basics & Sewing Knit Fabrics

This course has been developed for experienced sewers who have an overlocker or are considering buying one. The overlocker is an important adjunct to your sewing practice, learn to develop good handling skills on how to overlock safely and efficiently around a variety of shapes. Knit garments are sewn with the four thread overlocker and this course will cover knit garment construction techniques.
Students will need to bring their own 4 threaded-up overlocker to use during the class. If the overlocker is not in good working order, the student will need to contact the tutor prior to the class. The school has several overlockers available for students use, please let us know if you need to borrow one so that it can be booked in advance. Email [email protected]
Please bring the following items to class:
• Your overlocker: power cord & foot pedal and it’s instruction manual
• Sampling Fabric. Please prepare your fabric sampling for class use

By the end of the class you’ll be able to:
• Improve your understanding of how to thread up your overlocker easily
• Identify what needles and threads to use for your machine for different purposes
• Develop a range of overlocking handling techniques
• Have a greater understanding of working with knit fabrics and knit sewing & hemming techniques
