Jan Powell

Jan is a genealogist and a qualified teacher. She is interested in running  courses for people who like to learn to research their family tree/family history. She has been doing genealogy for over 40 years.

Jan is currently Convenor at NZSG Porirua branch. This involves running the committee and branch. She runs "How To…" beginning genealogy sessions,  gives slide show talks in greater Wellington and Wairarapa on Genealogy in the Digital Age. Researching and publishing online

GENEALOGY IN THE DIGITAL AGE:
5 Tuesday nights - Starts 16 October from 7-9pm

This course has been CANCELLED. This course is for beginners, or those who haven't searched for long. It focuses on New Zealand and overseas records. The course is hands-on, so you'll have time to find your own family using some of these resources: Births, Marriages, and Deaths entries; Electoral Rolls; Probate and Wills; Newspapers; Police Records; Shipping information; Census data; Parish registers; land records; convict records; maps; and whatever else is appropriate to the search. You'll learn how to record your findings using hand-written pages or computer programs to save it.
