Welcome to the Māori world! An ever changing, dynamic and fascinating world! In this class we learn about the Māori language, customs and culture. The language component (Te Reo Māori) will consist of basic sentence structures, vocabulary and popular phrases and sayings. By the end we will be able to converse confidently in Te Reo Māori.
The customary component (Kawa Māori) will look at the karakia (prayer) and waiata and it's significance to Māori. We will also look at protocols on a Marae, around the home and at work. By the end we will be able to conduct ourselves with respect and confidence in accordance with tikanga Māori in any Māori social setting.
As part of the cultural component (Tikanga Māori) we will explore the meanings behind aspects of Māori culture which we see and hear everyday, such as haka, place names, Māori myths and legends and abit of history of the local Iwi and Hapu of this area. By the end we will understand more about the country we all call home and as part of that, our own identity as New Zealanders

Refund requests must be made in writing to the Co-ordinator. Prior to the course commencing, a 20% administration cost will be removed from the refund. No refund will be available 24 hours prior to the course starting or once the course has started. A full refund is available should the Coordinator cancel the course.
