Christmas Cake - Making and DecoratingTutor/Facilitator: Mandy Keen A homemade Christmas Cake class where you will make your own cake to take home to bake plus make edible decorations to create your own masterpiece to keep or gift to someone special. Bring your own round cake tin 23cm in diameter as you will be taking the cake home to bake in your own oven. From stars and icicles to Christmas trees, and miniature Christmas jumpers and a little Santa hat! You will also learn how to crochet and decorate Christmas baubles! While you might not finish all the patterns this day, the aim is to have a go at making as many as possible! You will need to know some basic crochet stitches such as single and double crochet. You’ll also need to have some understanding of how to read a pattern and work with diagrams, as taught in the beginners’ crochet course. Native plant papermaking for Christmas In this festive themed papermaking workshop, you will create tasteful and ecofriendly paper ornaments, including tree ornaments, cards and envelopes, and gift tags. We will begin by mastering the basic papermaking skills. Then we’ll get into the Christmas spirit and, using our sustainably made native harakeke pulp, you’ll be able to explore making a range of shapes and adding inclusions of different materials and colours to create beautiful and unique decorations, and ornaments. SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)Tutor/Facilitator: Peter Kani UNFORTUNATELY THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED This 3 hour workshop is aimed at an introductory level and will introduce participants to the IKMF Krav Maga civilian self-defence curriculum through delivering easy to learn techniques and building confidence in using them. Students will leave the course with the ability “to do something, rather than nothing” when confronted with a dangerous or violent situation. SEWING KNIT GARMENTS (Simple)Tutor/Facilitator: Joyce Tam UNFORTUNATELY THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED. Want to make knit garments but feeling unsure of all the unknowns involved? This course will provide you with the opportunity to launch into sewing knits with confidence. Delivered over 2 consecutive Saturdays this course will enable you to develop understanding of the process of making a knit garment of your choice. During class, you will be guided through cutting out, prepping pieces to sew, seaming your garment with the overlocker and finishing hems, necklines and other edges. There will be many useful sewing tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the class also. Recommended to choose one of the following styles to make: Sweatshirt, Simple T-Shirt, Leggings, Sweatpants No styles that require a zip, buttons & buttonholes or other closures.
