Want to learn more about AI (Artificial Intelligence)? Come along to this introductory session where we will introduce new ways to help you work smarter (not harder). This session is aimed at anyone with no AI experience. You will use a range of on-line / real-time applications to generate text specific for your needs, plus generate images and videos to enhance your text. Basic computer skills would be helpful, but are not essential. BYOD is encouraged or school computers will be available.

BAKING WITH YEAST

Learn to bake yeasted products: Focaccia Bread, Cinnamon Rolls and Homemade Pizza. Some mixers available, however if you can bring a 'Stand Mixer' (like Kenwood/Kitchen Aid/ Breville etc) please do.

CHEESE MAKING: Halloumi & Ricotta

1 Saturday morning - On 22 March from 9am-12pm

You make the cheese at this intensely practical DIY 'hands-in' workshop because the key to good cheese making is knowing how the cheese should look and, most importantly, how it should feel at different points in it's creation. During this three hour hands-on workshop, you will be guided through the cheese making process while you make your own Halloumi and Ricotta which you will be able to take home and show off at the end!

CREATE YOUR CAREER ACTION PLAN

MEDITATION - AN INTRODUCTION

1 Saturday morning - 22 March from 9:30 - 11:30

This course offers a simple introduction to Meditation, covering: What is Meditation? What are the benefits? Simple techniques for entering a meditative state Two guided meditations The tutor will bring a few meditation pyramids for those who would like the experience of sitting within one while meditation. Please bring a cushion if you would like to try this. There will also be a short discussion about mindfulness and about channelling and how it could help with meditation. No prior meditation experience if required, just an open mind and a willingness to explore. Your tutor, Kim Chamberlain offers a range of spiritual services including meditation, channelling and spiritual readings.

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

1 Saturday afternoon - On 22 March from 12noon -3pm

This 3 hour workshop is aimed at an introductory level and will introduce participants to the IKMF Krav Maga civilian self-defence curriculum through delivering easy to learn techniques and building confidence in using them. Students will leave the course with the ability “to do something, rather than nothing” when confronted with a dangerous or violent situation. Students will learn: - Principles of developing a self-defence mindset - Use of controlled aggression as a tool to counter violence - Key considerations (practical, psychological and legal) when defending oneself. - Basic, uncomplicated and effective strikes for self-defence. - Intuitive/reflexive blocking and deflection techniques. - Use of ‘common objects’ as self-defence tools. - Preventions and releases against some common problems

SEWING KNIT GARMENTS (Simple)

2 Saturdays - 15 & 22 March 9am - 3:30pm

Want to make knit garments but feeling unsure of all the unknowns involved? This course will provide you with the opportunity to launch into sewing knits with confidence. Delivered over 2 consecutive Saturdays this course will enable you to develop understanding of the process of making a knit garment of your choice. During class, you will be guided through cutting out, prepping pieces to sew, seaming your garment with the overlocker and finishing hems, necklines and other edges. There will be many useful sewing tips and tricks sprinkled throughout the class also. Recommended to choose one of the following styles to make: Sweatshirt, Simple T-Shirt, Leggings, Sweatpants No styles that require a zip, buttons & buttonholes or other closures. If unsure about suitable style (or if you have any queries regarding course or course materials please contact the tutor via Tawa College Community Education coordinator. Some overlockers are available to use during the course or bring your own. Please let us know if you need to use a school machine so that it can be booked in advance .

Upholstery

6 Saturday mornings - Starts 22 February from 9.30am - 12.30pm

Learn how to revitalise your furniture using equipment you already have at home. Sewing skills are essential. Please note the size of your project will determine how much homework you need to do it get it completed, but come and learn what you need to do to refresh your furniture.
