EMOTIONAL HEALTH: What We Need for Lives That Thrive

Meeting our emotional needs, plays a vital role in our overall wellbeing. This practical course offers a coherent and empowering approach to taking charge of our mental health. We explore our core emotional needs (eg: attention, security, control, connection) and the inborn guidance systems we sue to meet them. We look at how stress develops when emotional needs are not met or unsuitably met, and its links with anxiety and depression. We explore how applying this knowledge can help shape effective and fulfilled lives.

Gagana Samoa for Everyone

8 Wednesday nights - Starts on 12 February from 6:30 - 8:30pm

Samoan Language is amazingly easy to learn. Learn to understand and use familiar Samoan everyday expressions. Learn about the culture of Samoa. A condition of enrolment on this course is that you will attend at least 80% of the sessions. The first time you enrol, you'll need to provide your National Student Number (NSN) or, if you don't have one, email a copy of your passport or birth certificate as proof of your NZ citizenship or residency to [email protected].

LANDLORDS MASTERCLASS

This class will help you sharpen up your performance as a landlord so you are getting the best from your property investment AND being a great landlord to your tenants. Jackie Thomas-Teague is an experienced landlord, property manager, teacher, and recognised in the Rent Skills Highly Commended category 2023 (formerly ‘Landlord of the Year’) and will help you deal with tricky areas, things you don’t enjoy, or are not confident about, as well as making sure you are meeting all your obligations. This is a safe environment to talk about all things landlord-related, so no matter your experience and skill level, you are bound to get something valuable out of it, and have fun doing it. Jackie welcomes questions before class so she can tailor the content to match your specific needs’.

MEDITATION - AN INTRODUCTION

This course offers a simple introduction to Meditation, covering: What is Meditation? What are the benefits? Simple techniques for entering a meditative state Two guided meditations The tutor will bring a few meditation pyramids for those who would like the experience of sitting within one while meditation. Please bring a cushion if you would like to try this. There will also be a short discussion about mindfulness and about channelling and how it could help with meditation. No prior meditation experience if required, just an open mind and a willingness to explore. Your tutor, Kim Chamberlain offers a range of spiritual services including meditation, channelling and spiritual readings.

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

1 Saturday afternoon - On 22 March from 12noon -3pm

This 3 hour workshop is aimed at an introductory level and will introduce participants to the IKMF Krav Maga civilian self-defence curriculum through delivering easy to learn techniques and building confidence in using them. Students will leave the course with the ability “to do something, rather than nothing” when confronted with a dangerous or violent situation. Students will learn: - Principles of developing a self-defence mindset - Use of controlled aggression as a tool to counter violence - Key considerations (practical, psychological and legal) when defending oneself. - Basic, uncomplicated and effective strikes for self-defence. - Intuitive/reflexive blocking and deflection techniques. - Use of ‘common objects’ as self-defence tools. - Preventions and releases against some common problems
