AI: Getting started

Want to learn more about AI (Artificial Intelligence)? Come along to this introductory session where we will introduce new ways to help you work smarter (not harder). This session is aimed at anyone with no AI experience. You will use a range of on-line / real-time applications to generate text specific for your needs, plus generate images and videos to enhance your text. Basic computer skills would be helpful, but are not essential. BYOD is encouraged or school computers will be available.

ART: Learn to Draw Workshop

THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL Would you like to learn to draw? Do you believe it's impossible for you? Well then, this course is exactly for you! I can teach you to draw by showing you how to activate the right hemisphere of your brain, which is ideally equipped for drawing. Drawing is innate like walking and talking, you already have everything you need, I will just open the door. The workshop is also perfect for you if you want to develop your skills. Give it a go, everyone learns and you can too!

Fees: NZ$90 - Bring your own 2B pencil, rubber and a pad of cartridge paper or a visual diary.

Google Docs: an introduction

Learn the basics of Google Docs and how this free application can help you produce professional looking documents. We will cover getting started, how to customise your work, plus how to allow others to contribute to your documents. Basic computer skills would be helpful, but are not essential. Job Hunting Essentials

It’s also an opportunity to reflect on your skills, experience and the value you bring to work. This course will provide you practical advice and activities that will help you figure out your next steps and how to get there. We will cover what skills employers are looking for, understand different job search strategies, and how to prepare a cover letter, CV and going for interviews.

LANDLORDS MASTERCLASS (Sundays)

If you are a landlord, you’ve faced a lot of changes. This class will help you sharpen up your performance as a landlord so you are getting the best from your property investment AND being a great landlord to your tenants. Jackie Thomas-Teague is an experienced landlord, property manager, teacher, and recognised in the Rent Skills Highly Commended category 2023 (formerly ‘Landlord of the Year’) and will help you deal with tricky areas, things you don’t enjoy, or are not confident about, as well as making sure you are meeting all your obligations. This is a safe environment to talk about all things landlord-related, so no matter your experience and skill level, you are bound to get something valuable out of it, and have fun doing it. Jackie welcomes questions before class so she can tailor the content to match your specific needs’.

SELF DEFENCE: Krav Maga(Age 15+)

1 Saturday afternoon - On 16 November from 12noon -3pm

This 3 hour workshop is aimed at an introductory level and will introduce participants to the IKMF Krav Maga civilian self-defence curriculum through delivering easy to learn techniques and building confidence in using them. Students will leave the course with the ability “to do something, rather than nothing” when confronted with a dangerous or violent situation. Students will learn: - Principles of developing a self-defence mindset - Use of controlled aggression as a tool to counter violence - Key considerations (practical, psychological and legal) when defending oneself. - Basic, uncomplicated and effective strikes for self-defence. - Intuitive/reflexive blocking and deflection techniques. - Use of ‘common objects’ as self-defence tools. - Preventions and releases against some common problems

WOODWORK: Skills & Projects (Tuesday)

Tutor/Facilitator: Gary Beecroft
8 Tuesday nights - Starts on 15 October from 7-9pm

Learn wood working skills using hand tools and the type of power tools found in the home. Choose your own project at your level of ability and learn skills while completing the project. You provide your own materials. No recycled timber allowed. This course will be held at the Tawa Menz Shed Davies St, Tawa.
